The Norwegian Wild Reindeer Pavilion, known as Tverrfjellhytta in Norwegian, was designed by Snøhetta as a structure for viewing that complements the unique landscape and diverse ecosystem of Norway’s Dovrefjell National Park in Hjerkinn. Dovrefjell is home to Europe’s fi nal wild reindeer herd and is a natural home to various rare endemic plants and animals, such as musk oxen and arctic foxes. The pavilion functions as a refuge for visitors and students engaged in the educational programs of the Norwegian Wild Reindeer Foundation.

Snøhetta placed signifi cant emphasis on the design’s connection to materials and locality. Yet, how does the material selection for the project compare to the carbon emission rate per unit of mass or volume? The project aims to represent carbon emissions in a non-Euclidean manner and to alter its building materials to mitigate overall carbon emissions.
